Hadid is the daughter of real estate developer Mohamed Hadid and “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum Yolanda Hadid. She has Muslim and Palestinian roots in her family, and is regularly outspoken in support of both communities.

Ramy first told the magazine that the script is one of “weirdest scripts we’ve ever written, and that says a lot.”

Bella then added that “People probably thought that my first acting job would be something super sensual and sexy”, but according to her, she’s not. She’s actually a “weirdo”.

“I was like, this is perfect,” she says. “We hadn’t even met before, but I had a feeling it was gonna be kismet…people will meet me and think, ‘Oh, I thought you were a bitch. Or I thought you were mean’, I’m like, ‘This other person that you saw on a magazine cover: no soul, no nothing? It’s just an armor.’”

Bella also opened up about how her character doesn’t shy away from her religion or her heritage, as the show actually examines what it means to be Muslim in America.

Ramy season three will stream on Hulu later this year.
